AFRO- CUBAN PORTRAITS! When the word Afro precedes something, it usually denotes the African origin of the object or the African influence over it. On Saturday 15th of July, at the Wigmore Hall, and with the collaboration of the Kyan Quartet, I’ll explore the concept of Afro-Cuban heritage in classical music through three different angles; the angles of Cuban composers, Walfrido Dominguez, Eduardo Martín and Leo Brouwer. -

KINGS PLACE
The Bath Festival Orchestra embarks on a journey through South America, starting off in Brazil with Villa-Lobos’ Guitar Concerto, starring renowned soloist Ahmed Dickinson. This piece is followed by an all-strings programme, in which the BFO will first visit Cuba – with more modern sounds by Leo Brouwer in his Canciones Remotas, then move through Venezuela with the beautiful Serenade for Strings by ‘Valkyrie of the Piano’ Teresa Carreño, who was fortunate to have seen many parts of the world in her own journeys. The evening ends with a bang in Argentina with a performance of Alberto Ginastera’s full-of-fireworks Concerto for Strings. Heitor Villa-lobos -

On Monday 14th September, 7:30pm Ahmed and Venezuelan singer Luzmira Zerpa performed before more than 5000 as support act for Juan Luis Guerra in his Royal Albert Hall debut. -

Ahmed Dickinson & Eduardo Martín (2014)
One of today's most prominent composer-guitarists made his London debut performing at the Bolivar Hall. Eduardo Martin’s music is currently recorded and performed by top guitar performers worldwide such as Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGC), Iliana Matos and Shin Ichi Fukuda. A Grammy award nominee, his creations seamlessly blend classical, Latin American, contemporary and Cuban languages gaining him a great acclaim from both the critics and public in general. For one night only in May, London had the privilege to experience a recital packed with several UK premieres. Ahmed Dickinson joined him playing some of the composer's thrilling guitar duets. -
